Instructions on How to Operate DownScan
Step 1: Draw your route
There are three ways to do this.
- In the upper right corner of the map you will see a Search box. Enter your origin point
address in the search box, and click the magnifying glass icon. DownScan will
automatically plot this address as a point on the map. Erase the first address in the
search box, enter your destination or next point address in the search box and click the
magnifying glass icon. DownScan will draw a route between the two points, and any
subsequent points you add using the search box.
- Uncheck the “Set Point” box above the upper left column. Then, navigate and scroll
over the map to locate your point; check the “Set Point” box; then, left click to set your
point. Uncheck the “Set Point” box before proceeding to navigate to your next point on
the route or destination point. Check the “Set Point” box. Then navigate again to your
next or final point, check the “Set Point” box, and left click to set your next or final
point. DownScan will automatically draw a route line between all points you scan-
locate and set.
- Enter coordinates of the origin point into the “Add Coordinates” box in the left hand
column. Be sure to include the minus sign at the front end of your longitudinal
coordinate. You won’t see the coordinates in the box as you type, but when you click on
“Add,” this and any additional points will display in a list. Build your route by typing the
coordinates sequentially into the Add Coordinates box. DownScan will automatically
plot points in the list into a route on the map.
You can use any, or all of these methods, sequentially to set points in a specific route. As you
set points, DownScan will automatically draw a route among those points, in the order you set
them. If you make a mistake, or want to change what you’ve already set, no worries. Just click
the “Undo” box, and DownScan will erase points one at a time in the reverse order to which
you set them.
Step 2: Select or describe your aircraft
Do this by making a selection from the dropdown menu in the
left hand column, or entering the physical and operational characteristics of your custom or
specific vehicle.
Step 3: Calculate the DownScan values for your route
Do this by clicking the “Submit” button beneath
the map. DownScan will calculate and display, under the map, the Property Risk (dollars),
Human Risk (dollars), and the Exposure Risk (numbers of people) associated with your defined
route.
